- Trying to configure a second home system for kid and old man to keep
- them outta my hair and offa my pentium<G> , so I bought I used 486 from
- a reputable used computer dealer. It came with a brand new Rockwell
- 14,400 internal modem. Well I having the damndest time getting that darn
- thing to hold up an internet connection. Now, this is not something new
- to me , I own a company that does contract internet provider support, so
- to say the least I am somewhat embarrased to even come here for help.
- But I have tried every init string I can find around the net, most of
- them give me an error return. The problem is it will dial, and seem to
- connect, tho sometimes I notice it throws extra characters in the phone
- number, and of course wont connect at all then as its dialling the wrong
- number. When I do a manual login from Trumpet , I can get it to appear
- to log in ok, but I do not have a connection that allows me to to get
- anywhere ie; email, netscape, telnet, etc. it just seems to hang.....
-
- I am generally a USR modem fan, but this system came with this ( IMHO)
- piece of substandard equipment, so before I trash it and bite the bullet
- and buy a USR 14,400 if anyone has any knowledge or suggestions please
- email me...
-
- Thanks and appreciation in advance for any and all help.
